Portland, Ore. — Born out of necessity and evolved into artistry, the origins and refinement of nutcrackers carves a captivating history. No other collectible or tool has shown such a diversity of materials and design as this household implement.

The Art & Character of Nutcrackers is an enchanting visual account of the distinct styles, materials, and birthplaces of these hand-held pieces of art. From ornate sterling silver designs to simply-carved wooden toys, nutcrackers embody creativity and culture from across the globe.

These handsomely crafted nutcrackers are part of a 5,000-piece collection housed in the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum. Dedicated to preserving the rich history of the nutcracker, the entire collection including the Bavarian-style building have been donated to the National Heritage Foundation to ensure that the collection will remain in tact for generations.
