Mathias Freund, a carver in the Erzgebirge, has created some wonderful nutcrackers that crack nuts in most unusual ways!  The museum is proud to show his designs.

The first is a Beer Wagon, made especially for our Bavarian Village of Leavenworth.  The cracking device is under the first row of barrels.      (click to enlarge any image)

The second is an American Patriot who lifts his leg to reveal an opening for the nut.  Lowering the leg cracks the nut.

The third is a Royal King with long cape.  Lifting the cape you will find that it also is a nutcracker!

The fourth carving shows how a nut is cracked between the heads of two animals.

The last nutcracker shows a little mouse waiting patiently for someone to crack the nut so he can eat the kernel!

Visitors at the museum are fascinated with these delightful carvings.  Thank you Herr Freund!!
