It is interesting to see the results when a creative man carves a nutcracker.  The first picture (below) shows an Arabian man that was carved from a small branch.  The nutcracker is only 5 inches tall, but the carving is magnificent.   You can see the original shape of the branch, and how the carver emphasized this.  This nutcracker is probably from France and from the mid 19th Century. 

The second picture (below) shows a court jester.  This is unusual in that the tassels on his hat and trim at the base are carved of ivory.  This nutcracker is from Austria and from the 19th Century.  We must remember that the jester was a member of the court, and the only one who could make fun of the king without punishment.

The third picture (below) is a lovely French Courtesan, silver-plated over brass.  The top part of the nutcracker moves up, allowing the legs freedom to crack the nut.  This nutcracker is 8.5 inches tall, and was made in France in the late 19th century.  A beautiful piece!!!
