New at the Museum - October 2006

Here are a few more unique nutcrackers that have joined the museum collection in the past few months. It is always a joy to find a new specimen to show to our visitors.

Except for the nutting stones, our oldest nutcracker is this bronze nutcracker from Roman times.  Archaeologists date this piece between 200 BC and 200 AD.  It was found during an excavation in 1960 after being buried about 1800 years.

This interesting boxwood nutcracker shows some of it's original paint.  It is from France and was carved in the early 18th century.

This nutcracker was carved in Switzerland during the 19th century.  It shows a young woman in a bonnet, but when turned over it shows a vicious ugly old woman.

This picture shows nut openers from the 14th to 17th century.  Pieces like this are shown in the ironworks museum in Rouen, France

The Nutcracker Museum is handicap accessible.
