Erstes Nussknacker Museum in Neuhausen Germany

This museum in Germany and the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum are the only two all-nutcracker museums in the world.

The Erstes Nussknackermuseum Europas at Neuhausen in the Erzgebirge shows over 5,000 nutcrackers and is at present, the only all nutcracker museum in Europe. Uwe Loeschner is now the curator having taken over the position from his father, Jurgen. The Loeschner museum shows the largest nutcracker in the world, as well as the smallest working nutcracker at 5mm.

Each year this museum hosts the European nutcracker collectors for their annual convention, and nearly every year since the 80’s I have had the opportunity to attend. Tours are arranged for various workshops and museums, lectures are given, and it is truly a learning experience. There is a show and tell for which collectors bring some of their favorite pieces, and there is always a chance to buy pieces from collectors. And of course much time is spent just in nutcracker talk and comradeship. German is the language used, although there are several of the collectors who do speak fluent English.
